Tony Garland

Tony is an experienced facilities manager, building services professional and people manager with a long career revolving around people and the built environment they work in. He has worked over 10 years in facilities management in Hong Kong, covering most aspects of the business including operations, technology, customer service, quality, health & safety, business continuity, strategy, business process and intellectual capital retention. Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 1995 he was director of a building services consultancy practice in the UK and has a deep knowledge of the engineering aspects of the built environment and how they interrelate with the building structure and fabric.

Tony has a life-long interest in improving existing operations, from both personal and business aspects. He now focuses his activities on understanding how things get FM business done effectively. He is a keen advocate of technology, where this can be applied to good effect, and believes that the productivity improvements available from technology are not only a current key business differentiator but will be an essential ingredient of future business operations. His work has included implementing computer maintenance management systems for two major corporations in Hong Kong and extending one of these systems to cover full electronic work flow for the direct labour staff.

Tony is committed to the development of facility management in Hong Kong and is a member of the International Facility Management Association. He has been a board member of the local chapter of this association since 2005 and was president of the local chapter from 2007 to 2009.
